Students of this course will taste the authentic classical Sanskrit tradition, learning the correct pronunciation of mantras and verses while contemplating their meaning. The daily schedule will include mantra chanting and meditation, as well as classes on selected verses from the classic Mahayana Buddhist text Bodhi Patha Pradipika by Atisha. Beginners are welcome, as are students with some prior knowledge of Sanskrit.
Course teacher Raji Ramanan is a Sanskrit scholar and translator, who is extensively involved in projects concerning Buddhism, Indian culture and social movements. Guiding students with great expertise and enthusiasm, she stresses the transformative experience of chanting with awareness of the meaning of each word.
