Janet Thomas – Nature, Nurture, and the Writing Body – A Writing Workshop
March 16 - March 19Free
Connection to nature is connection to nurture. It is also a connection to life–inside and out. In this writing time together we “listen to the sounds of silence,” reflect upon the meaning of it all, and write about it. Silence is encouraged, so is unplugging from tech-time. There are silent walks in the natural world interspersed with writing and reflection. It is a time to be “write now” in our writing and “right now” in our being. As these hi-tech times distance us from the richness of low-tech life, it is critically important to reconnect to the natural world–within and without.
Janet Thomas has been teaching yearly workshops at Deer Park since 2009. Her books include, The Battle in Seattle—The Story Behind and Beyond the WTO Demonstrations, and Day Breaks Over Dharamsala—A Memoir of Life Lost and Found. She has written plays and poetry and was the editor of a travel magazine for five years. She lives and writes on an island off the coast of Washington State in the U.S.
