Mahayana uttaratantra shastra belongs to the group of commentaries called the Five Dharmas of Maitreya. These teachings were brought into the human world by Arya Asanga. Asanga practiced Lord Maitreya for twelve years and in his visionary experience, Maitreya took him to the Tushita god realm and transmitted the five commentaries to him. Uttaratantra explains Buddha’s nature in various stages within the framework of seven Vajra points. The text has five chapters.

Sonam Phuntshok is a student of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and has done his studies at the Dzongsar Institute.
