Crossing to Clarity: The Raft of Dhamma Practice A 7-Day Silent Retreat with Ajahn Jīvako
In the context of a spiritual journey, the raft symbolizes the Dhamma—the teachings of the Buddha—as a practical tool for navigating life’s challenges and moving toward liberation from
suffering. This retreat offers a unique opportunity to explore your inner landscape through mindfulness meditation and reflective practices rooted in Buddhist teachings. With the Four
Noble Truths as its central theme, the retreat will draw on readings and reflections from the Pali Canon and the teachings of the Thai Forest Tradition. This spacious and quiet environment will
provide the ideal setting for cultivating a calm mind, fostering insight, and nurturing wisdom.
This retreat is designed to support both beginners in Buddhism and meditation as well as more experienced practitioners seeking a “boost” in their Theravāda practice. Participants will have the opportunity to undertake the Three Refuges and Five Precepts as additional support for their practice. Group chanting sessions will provide further reflections, offering a taste of traditional teachings as practiced in Theravāda monasteries worldwide. Meals will be taken in silence to sustain mindfulness, encouraging participants to eat with attention and a contemplative attitude. There will also be opportunities to ask questions during group discussions or privately during breaks.
The serene and peaceful setting of Deer Park will provide an ideal physical environment for practice. Noble silence, which includes disconnecting from phones and computers, will optimize the space for inner reflection and a deeper connection with oneself. The daily schedule will include multiple sessions of sitting and walking meditation, complemented by guided meditations and reflections. During breaks, participants are encouraged to relax with gentle practices such as stretching, breathing exercises, or lying meditation (yoga nidra) to restore both body and mind. To further support the retreat environment, participants will be asked to hand in their phones and computers, which will be safely stored for the duration of the retreat.
May this retreat inspire and support your Dhamma practice, helping you cultivate the habits and conditions necessary for peace and understanding in your daily life.
