Exploring a Personal Journey – A Writing Workshop facilitated by Marlon de Souza
Our lives are filled with stories that shape our identity – some stories are the ones that we tell ourselves, some are what others tell us. Most of our stories are constantly running in the background, without examination, driving, and filtering our experience of life in ways that we often might not intend. When we sit still in silence, we are able to begin to hear a language from within. Writing from a place of silence, we get a chance to observe our stories about life. Writing gives us the opportunity to honor our own lived experience in a manner that is true to our highest self.
With stillness and with honesty, we can begin to understand where we are in this moment, how we got here, and where we want to go. And with practice, we are able to begin to connect to the collective human and sentient being condition, with increasing freedom from a cookie-cutter existence, away from the pressure of how ‘society’ and social media says we should live and be.
Marlon de Souza has been writing and telling stories and poems for most of his life. Along the way, he decided to examine his own stories in order to experience life from a more connected place. He has lived in New York City and Mumbai and finds peace in the stillness of mountainous settings.
